William is known for his work as a composer, performer and researcher. 

His extensive experience and practical knowledge of the film music business means that he is often called in to advise on historical music matters, arrange music, source instruments and specialist performers and compose and record music for soundtrack and in-scene music cues. He has considerable knowledge of the processes and requirements of film music, music recording and a research pedigree at doctoral level which helps provide accurate historical advice to directors and producers. 

Whilst he specialises in historic music, William has also composed music for as diverse projects as Medieval France, the French Revolution, nineteenth century university life, and the First World War.

William has composed, directed and performed music for Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, the National Theatre and most recently for films including Mary Queen of Scots, Emma. and the Academy Award-winning The Favourite, for which he won the Crystal Pines Award for Best Original Score in 2019.
